Thank you for all yesterdays excellent comments re: printing Sheila’s calender. I have some wonderful avenues to explore now, in my search for ways for Sheila to make some pin money to buy extra feed and maybe outfit a new summer area for her in the Rat House. Mama and the girls are living in there now until the grass shows. It is gloriously sunny all morning and very sheltered.
Daisy is due in just over two weeks. And so cold yesterday that her tears were freezing on her cheeks.
Queenie would like to remind us that she is also due to have her calf at the beginning of April.
Queenie has always been such a round cow that honestly it is hard to tell if she really is pregnant or not. April might be a better month for calving though.
Marcel was 10 days old yesterday.
And celebrated by sleeping most of the day with his rather formidable Boo Nanny.
Do you remember that a week or so ago we had a few days above freezing, which melted some of the snow. Then of course it froze again. Now we are surrounded in fields of ice. Hard bitter unrelenting ice. The walks are even more dangerous than ever.
Below is the Creek that is really a Ditch. In fact Our John’s Great-Grandfather dug this ditch to drain the land, it was swampland until then. John has inherited a little of the land across this ditch but we need to find a way across so we can take it out of the rented/ cropping cycle and farm over there. At the moment we have to drive all the way around on the road, then cut across someone else’s bridge and through their yard. Our house is just out of sight; screen left. Anyone got a bridge for sale? A big bridge?
This is where I am going to sow the wild flowers this spring. Along the banks of this Creek that is really a Ditch.
I hope you all have a lovely day.
Your friend on the ever changing farmy,
celi

Search Metal Bridges for Sale – they make farm bridges that just get plonked down on-site…I looked at some a few years back, but don’t remember where I saw them…
We need a line of Sheila t-shirts – with captions – to go along with the calendars…That was my first thought of the morning, believe it or not. If you do them, I’m in! 🙂
Oh, now there’s a thought and the first thought of the morning! a goodie.. Good morning . c
Caption competition s beckon!
Love the idea of a Sheila the Pig T-shirt!!! And a competition for the caption!!! 🙂
what a thought.. a competition.. c
I’d love one of those as well….fantastic
Me too!
That Marcel is quite adorable, and now I’m sounding like a broken record. Can you train a lamb to poop in a specific place?
Nope! Nor pee. Just wherever they pause. And Marcel has still not firmed up so – My poor floors!.. c
Miss C…a small suggest…you can make some diapers. Old hand towels work well. Or old t-shirt material. You can create a belly band with a (female) pad in the middle to catch the pee and you can fold the material around the back end (cut a hole for the tail or you will have a huge mess) like a child’s diaper for the tail end. Sure makes for a much easier clean up than mopping the floor. I used to use huge diaper pins, but I would think any safety pen would work.

Really sick of this cold, ice, and snow but Marcel’s smiling face brings out some warmth. Be careful out there, miss c… t
I can’t believe how dreadful it is..but I do see (this morning) that in 10 days we pop above freezing again, maybe then things will get better..c
We have a huge canal system in my area for summer irrigating. I have land on both sides of the ditch but the really old wooden bridge crossing to the “other” side fell in long ago and my only way to get there was driving around the back another 3-4 miles. The canal maintenance company needed to do some work on the canal this winter when there was no water in it and had to use my road to get to it. I bartered with them to come up with a bridge for me in exchange for access across my land. They are going to use an old semi-bed with side rails welded on for the bridge. Maybe something like that would work for you?
What a stunning result! Mine is too wide, but I love the idea.. c
I have never seen a sheep with such a smiley face. It’s infectious! I don’t know, these days you can get a flat-pack anything. Do you think that Ikea might do a flat-pack bridge!!!
Christine
If anyone will Ikea will!! morning christine..c
OH what a sweet face Marcel has.
So the Creek that is a Ditch – would that be a Critch? Happy Thursday – prayers for warmer weather there.
A Critch and not a very pretty Critch either! It will be in full flood in the not too distant future.. c
Marcel greets me every morning when I turn on the computer!!! Thanks so much for that.
I am so pleased.. Smiles are our golden moments.. c
I just cannot get over that dog and lamb… I love it… my whole family now waits each day to see the photos… the grandkids are fascinated…
They were great today weren’t they. There is a whole series of them, i got no writing done at all!!… c
Marcel has very long legs and neck 🙂 Do you have Giraffes out there on the Prairie?? 🙂 I think I heard London Bridge was for sale a while ago … Laura
Ps Am I imagining it or has the coal stove window been broken? Laura
no , it was just on very low, as cold as it is I keep it running very low so the lamb does not get too hot and to conserve wood. But he WILL still race over to it if i forget to make the furniture fence to keep him out… c
I know you’ll love having additional land and put it to good use. Marcel is an adorable baby.
Morning, Sharyn, first i am going to plant a good number of trees andng but hopefully this winter a good cover crop.. it takes cash though, as you know land is one thing but cash for fences and seed and all the rest means sending John back to work!.. c
Ice, I understand. We had a horrid blizzard last week with rain before the snow. While ice and snow are finally melting from roads, ice still coats sidewalks, driveways and parking lots. I shuffle across surfaces for fear of falling.
and then it is polished, all ours is polished absolutely shiny .. terrrifying.. c
a friend of mine looked in paper for used I beams,we used them to build a bridge across a 40 ft creek.we poured a cement cap on top of the beams to drive across,he worked at a sawmill, so luckily we could use log skidders to place beams
hmm, this sounds like something I should tell the men to watch out for.. thank you ron.. c
I’ve never seen a lamb that is so very smiley before!
he just has that face hasn’t he!.. c
I was going to say an ex-REME Bailey bridge would do the job nicely, but as you’re in the States… an ex-US Army Bailey bridge – wonder where you’d find one of those looking for a home?
Boo is awesome. What a great nanny he is. How do you sell your calendars?
I think I might set up a paypal on this site and then if someone wants one they can pay that way and I will send one. This might work for soap too?.. c
I would think so. And keep it streamlined.
Oh, I like this. And will you sell your essential oils as well?
