Some I never even get around to showing you.
I will try – but not today.
I can’t seem to find my rhythm this summer – not so far anyway.
I love the long necks on cows.
We have a savage amongst Poppy’s babies. Someone has bitten a chunk out of one of Poppy’s teats. And I think when this happened she must have leapt up and stood on another piglet ripping its little hoof off. The pig has two hooves per foot but still this is not a good thing. As I understand it the hoof will not grow back. I have given the baby antibiotics against infection and have Alex’s help with dipping the wound in iodine frequently.
The piglets are only just over two weeks old so once she hits three weeks I can bring her out to the house. This is only a few more days but I am afraid if I bring her out now and she does not take to a bottle or lap milk she will not thrive. Better to get her strong enough first. But if I leave her in there an infection might get away on us. Piglets sleep a lot so if she keeps off her feet it may well dry up. A Catch 22.
I will monitor her closely.
Poppy’s teat I am treating with iodine and it is drying up nicely. I think the piglets are still drinking from it which makes me cringe but will keep it clean.
So there is always something!

The flowers are just beautiful, my peonies are coming in nicely with big buds, they are not as far along as yours.

Ouch! Poor Poppy and baby. Would a hoof coming off be a bit like a toenail? Will the piglet still be able to walk OK without it?
Your critters sure keep you on your toes and when the plants misbehave, lawzy! It’s mayhem! As all of the other have said, fare thee well baby and momma! May you heal quickly! You too, Ceci! Methinks your heart is still in Milan!

Ouch! Double ouch! The farmy under your care will offer that little one the best chance of healing. You just cannot take your eyes off of them for a minute, can you?
You have poppies in bloom? and peonies? Sometimes it’s as if we’re in completely different climates. Well, I do have blooms on my tomato plants — but I planted them far too early this year. I half-expected to be replacing them after more than one cold night. Not to worry. The pepper plants are coming along just fine! 🙂
