The Flying Scots-Man

Our Scotman has arrived on a plane and now we have a full complement of workers.

Last night he and the girls all went for a walk after dinner – I think they are going to get along just fine.

Wai the rescue potbelly pig refused to let Alissa cover him while I was away at the airport, snapping like a turtle at her.  These flat one dimensional images do not do justice to the sheer bloodymindedness of this pig. The wounds you are seeing are indented into his body. Some between a 1/4 and a 1/2 inch deep. I can feel his joints under my fingers.  When the skin is healed he will have extraordinary scars. All my workers visibly blanch and swallow when they see him. His survival is astounding.  All that healing and still has time to be an ordinary fussy bad tempered wee pig. Love it!!

I think he has made friends with Tima too which is amazing. Tima is not known for her good nature or kindness to animals.

After giving me a full week of perfect weather the forecast now shows a chance of rain every day until Sunday. And I have cut all the hayfields. And I need one more day of drying. Just ONE MORE DAY!

Fingers crossed.

I hope you have a lovely day. Me too!!

Love celi

  1. It probably takes Wai a few weeks to trust a new human – I noticed how talkative he is in the Instagram video. It’s good to hear that Tima is being kind to him 🙂

  2. Aroha Wai Wai, toa ngakau toa… such a brave boy. He looks as if he’s been gouged by huge claws and blasted by fiery breath. I wonder if there are any dragons in his past! I bet your pig rescue lady finds him changed – for the better – past all recognition.

    • Yes, so much change, hey? Just look at all the weight that’s fallen off already… You can really see his face & rib cage now and he’s getting “baggy-stocking-ankles” of loose skin. Such a tough little fellow! And who wouldn’t be gruff, with his life’s experience?

  3. Wai has decided you are his #1 human 🙂 Hoping Michael comes with his Granny’s short bread recipe? Holding thumbs here for 2 more dry days for the hay 🙂 Laura

  4. It doen’t sound like Tima makes friends easily 😊 so what are your thoughts about Wai going forward? Is he destined to be a Farmy pig? Or will he be rehabilitated for another family? Or maybe it’s too soon to tell?

  5. Here’s to the better of that 50% chance of sunshine! For me, one of the most difficult parts of rescue is the unknown past. I bet Wai will learn to trust Alissa, it will just take time.

  6. It’s wonderful to hear how Wai has come to love and trust you. I’m sure he will be wary of strangers for quite some time. I don’t imagine he likes John.? Enjoy listening to that dreamy Scottish accent : ) sigh…….

  7. Some friendship. I think they must have had a tiff. The cat on the fence rail seems to be enjoying Tima’s sulk behind the post while Wai waddles away muttering, “pigs!”

  8. Lady Astor and Ton Ton seem to be having words! Glad all your helpers are with you now, some much needed help. We had thunder storms yesterday. I hope you keep dry today.
