Meet the New Two

We need a few more mousers. The wee ginger will be called Tuesday. I believe he named himself. The other one I have not decided yet.

New kids on the block.

The war on thistles continues.

Poppy is in heat and making sure everyone knows it. She is wild when she is in heat that sow.

As luck has it Lady Aster is on the same cycle so she spent all last night yelling.

I hope you have a lovely day.

NEWSLETTER NEWS:

Now that things are a little slower and while Michael is still here (’til Friday) I am working  hard to get the test Kitchen’s Garden Farm Newsletter out this week. It is going to be so pretty and it will make you laugh. The work will be original to the newsletter so what you see and read there will not be in the blog.

And it will give you the links to ways to help fund the farm. But there are kinks to work out and one or two more August gifts to get into the Zazzle shop.

Scroll right past the comments to SIGN UP. My test run will be this week (maybe as soon as Thursday)  come hell or high water. Then the first Monday of the month from then on.

  1. Hens have such discerning looks, don’t they? Your thistle has a prettier flower head than ours does… and ours have gone to seed now and a new batch of rosettes are setting up. Will we ever be successful in eradicating them?

  2. A bulling cow, noisy for sure. Great Grandma had a cow on her little plot in Morgan Park (now Chicago and a school yard – house and all long gone) and she would tell my mother about how the cow would be bulling when it was time to breed her for the next year’s calf. I actually have an old photo of the house and cow staked out in the side yard, with a couple trees, nothing else around. It is quite the contrast to the large brick school, playground/parking area that is there now and has been for a lot of years.

  3. Oh dear!! Would Poppy be yearning for poor ol’ Tane again? She nearly wore him out chasing after him last time, if I recall! Chased him all over ‘Kingdom Come’ and back.

  4. Please let us know in the blog when the newsletter goes out. I have a very over-zealous spam filter and I expect I will have to hunt the newsletter down and teach it that it goes in the inbox.

  5. We had those thistles appear on our farm a few years ago. At first it was just one, the next year spread all the way through the property and this year even our neighbors have them! Some of them have grown to be much taller than me! We did some research and they seem to be related to milk thistles. They really are a freak of nature. How they manage to ward off everyone big enough to hurt them but still attract the small bugs and birds who fit between the thistles is a survival amazement!
Also those kittens are quite cute!
