The weather channel says it is getting colder.  It is 40F/4C and windy this morning.  Time for an extra layer when I go outside. clear-day-003

This picture is so funny. It shows how tall Aunty Del is and how really short wee Txiki is.   Lady’s little herd. Just watching.

This gate is open for Wai to walk around the barn if he wants to. But he will not go out. He is afraid, he stands right there and reaches his nose out sniffing at the opening.   I sometimes wonder if his sight was not impaired by the ‘incident’ too. He may well be navigating by smell. This may be another reason he prefers to be alone.  No surprises.  He is much calmer in here – I hear none of that squealing and calling out. He does love his new bed too. After taking this photo (he looks like a rock) I reached in and covered him up.

Look at his poor wee askew tail. He knows where his bed is.

Shiny, well fed plonkers.

What about you Aunty Del, what are you up to?

The Big Bobby who lives with pigs.

It is not often I get a shot of Molly feeding her babies.

She is still looking really healthy and is holding her weight so she can keep them for a while longer. I watch the sow carefully from three weeks on of any signs of the piglets dragging her down. If they have big litters the piglets will actually pull her weight right off her and her health will suffer. But with Molly having only three she is keeping up. You can see that some of the teats have dried up to compensate for the lack of numbers.  I want these piglets nice and fat before the winter comes.

Colder.  But not cold yet.

I am working on the calendar today. It is looking beautiful. I aim to have it ready to buy on the 4th of November. Zazzle allows me to make two different sizes so we can have a cheaper option for gifts. The 4th of November is Our Full Moon. The date of the next newsletter.  I will strive to have it ready to sell by then.

I missed our calendar last year.

I hope you have a lovely day.

  1. Looking the pictures of your cows reminded me of something new I recently learned. The girls and I went on a homeschool field trip to a local farm. We were feeding the cows and I noticed that one of the cows appeared to have six teats. I told one of the other moms that I thought cows only had four, so she looked it up and we both learned something new about cow teats. I had no idea they could have two extra toward the back of the udder and that it isn’t at all uncommon.

The other thing I learned is that bulls really are bullies. Especially long horns, who no one wants to mess with.

It was a fun day on the farm feeding cows, llamas, goats, chickens and rabbits. Not the kind of farm I had hoped to have, but at least I was able to live out some of my farm girl dreams.

    • Yes – if you look at Aunty’s udder she has an extra one – some farmers cut them off when the animal is a calf which I was baulking at doing – my vet said that they are not hooked into the milk so they don’t inflate with milk and will stay small and useless. She told me it was OK to leave them be – so I have. c

    • yes – there is a lot to learn. When Poppy only had five a few of her teats dried up and were forever useless with subsequent litters -I hope that does not happen with Molly. That would be a bad design.. c

  2. Very happy that Wai has settled into his new quarters. Perhaps with time he will find the courage to journey around the corner and check out the rest of his ‘pad’. Also glad that the Big Bobby has found a home with Tima and Tane! He looks very contented there!!! 🙂

  3. The window shot is exceptional, it looks like a painting, and sends cold shivers down my spine.

  4. I thought the piglets were big before, but now they look huge!
I’m glad Wai likes his new home – it is getting cold on the farmy – it’s still relatively warm here so far.

  5. As a breastfeeding mother I have a whole new sympathy for farm animals these days…! That shot of the piglets is just lovely, and seems so peaceful.

  6. Wai is a grumpy little guy, and if he can’t see well that could explain a lot. I would tell you to give him a hug from me, but he probably wouldn’t like that so the hugs have to go to the ones who will appreciate it. Thank you for taking such good care of him and all the animals on the farmy, both great and small.

  7. Wai is so sweet, and I love the window picture too, very atmospheric.

  8. ahhh if Wai had been with you from his beginning he would not have the health or mental issues he has…he is one lucky pig to be with you now!
and the window photos are stellar- like paintings….wonderous!

  9. Wow – your piggies ARE healthy!! We took good care of our piggies but their coats never shown like that!!
Love the photo of twilight seen through the barn window – and very much looking forward to your calendar!!

  10. I couldn’t figure out the picture of the window view at first. I took it to be overlooking a lake with the other shore in shadow and the sun reflecting in the water. There’s even a gull at the very left!

  11. The cows eyes in the first picture look like something from the film Village of the Damned…Spooky

    • I have a painting an oil painting of a farm and barn mounted in an old beat-up window frame painted white. I bought it at a flea market and it’s one of my favorite pieces, along with farm-barn paintings on old rust hand saws. Sunny

  12. Happy Monday sweet friend. I think we finally found some cold late last night. Mom *finally* had to turn on the heat a little and make a fire. I was shivering and couldn’t get close enough to mom in the bed. Hopefully I can hibernate a little now. Do your piggies do that in the winter? Gracias hermosa, ¡que tengas un gran lunes!
