CALLING IT A NIGHT
… in the middle of the afternoon. Yesterday darkness fell about 3.30pm. A storm was rolling in. All the animals took note and began to take their places in their barns. ‘Calling it a night.’ Early.

Manu slept the night in his little tin house. He had two bales of dry golden straw in there and has made himself a big warm bed.

A familiar and unsettling restlessness is creating a sinking feeling in me. I don’t even know where to take this sentence. So I will just leave it there.

AT THE KITCHEN DOOR

When I am doing chores Jude comes out of his house and follows us about the farm. He is the sweetest little pig and is my constant companion.

OUTSMARTED BY THE DUCKS

Yesterday when I went out to start my chores I was greeted by a string of giggling ducks wandering down the drive. Not good. They should have been in the barn laying. It was not yet light. And all their nests were empty. Not even one egg. The ducks had escaped before laying their eggs.
