UNSIGHTLY ANGLE

Yesterday we received over an inch of rain. Oh. Happy New Year! In America! Sorry, keep forgetting things like that. The social niceties! Anyway we got over an inch -there is so much water in the ground and so little evaporation at this time of year.

LEACHING COLOUR

Slowly the colour is draining from the landscape. Very slowly. Inexorably. Without pity. Even though it is still a New Zealand winter the green is going.

LAST DAY

Tomorrow I leave for California – not for long – six days I think – so today John will do all the morning chores by himself so he can ask me any questions.
