BACK ON THE FARM

The air and skies are thick with gloomy thundery rain this morning – my first morning back on the farm after a busy couple of weeks in Australasia. However I am raring to go and enthusiastic about getting this season’s farming underway back here on the farm in Illinois.

A MOUSE AND A SKUNK

I was working in the corridor field yesterday and spied this fat wee mouse, just outside Tima’s barn door. She was picking up tiny specks of grain and gobbling them down. It was cold and she shivered but persevered until Tima came rushing out and like a wink the mouse folded back into the wall…

NOT FRIENDS

Pigs are reported to enjoy each other’s company but these two,Molly and Sheila, are not getting on at all even preferring to sleep in separate quarters.

AWAY AWAY

This morning I spoke at an organic grain conference. It went well and I had a good time. Putting the 160 into organic crops has certainly opened the door to hew opportunities. The ice was heavy yesterday. And the light low. However today the temperatures are way up above freezing again. Close to 50 actually.…

LAYERS

The ducks are still only laying one or two eggs a day. The chickens maybe six on a good day. This is quite natural. The winter is their time for rest.
